Customized Switches
| The Hall
Company offers a variety of customization techniques; limited only by
your application and imagination. |
| The
Hall company manufactures three styles of stainless steel domes for your
use. They are: |
|
| 1. 0.350" Circular Dimple Dome | |
| 2. 0.410" Triangular Dome | |
| 3. 0.500" Circular Dimple Dome | |
Additionally,
we have a variety of purchased domes ranging in size and shape with tactile
feedback from 8-16 oz. |
|
| The 0.410" Triangular Dimple Dome is the most versatile of the domes and is available in actuation forces of 8 oz. and 12 oz. Being triangular in shape, this dome lends itself to PC-board applications that may require traces being run between feet. This dome also provides the space necessary to use a LED lamp in the corner of a key; if required. The 0.500" and 0.350" domes each require approximately 8 oz. of pressure and are excellent for the average application. All domes are rated at a minimum of 1,000,000 actuations. | |
Graphic
Embossing
| The
Hall Company can add quality embossing to enhance the appearance and operation
of your keypad. Embossing on the graphic layer can perform three functions: |
|
| A. Create a locator for each individual key by touch. | |
| B. Allows a tactile dome more freedom of movement. | |
| C. Visually enhances the appearance of the switch assembly. | |
Two
types of standard embossing are available: |
|
| 1. Perimeter Emboss adds a raised edge around the key. This will form a well for ease of use in locating the key. | |
| 2. Full Pillow Emboss raises the key from the background surface. This gives the key a 3-D look and feel. Embossing is not limitted to keys; logos, specific text and other cosmetic items can be embossed, as well. (recommended when using stainless steel domes). | |
| Tolerances | |
| We recommend an
emboss width of 0.032 inches or greater (Perimeter Key Emboss). Spacing
between each individual key should be a minimum of 0.250 inches to assure
adequate adhesion to the mating switch surface. The height of the emboss should not exceed 150% of the thickness of the material. In most instances we are utilizing 0.007 inch thick material with an emboss height of 0.010 inch. |
|
| Support panels,
often termed "backplates" can be supplied by The Hall Company. Most applications
utilize aluminum with punched holes for mounting, tail exits or display
windows. We also offer studs and standoffs to mount your display or circuit
board to the backside. Aluminum backplates are available unfinished, clear
or a black anodized finish. Other finishes are available, contact
The Hall Company for your specific needs. |
| Color matching
systems such as the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM swatches will, over time and
exposure to light, vary from book to book. If feasible, and where specific
matches are critical, we recommend that you provide a color chip. Also,
the specific lighting which affects this product in its normal operating
environment should be identified. As part of the color mixing/matching
process, a MacBeth light booth (which simulates varied lighting) will
be used, as well as natural lighting to achieve an exact
color match. |
| The Hall Company provides a variety of termination types to meet your requirements. Both male and female crimp connectors, as well as solder tabs are available for flexible-switch constructions. PC-Board termination are numerous, and should be identified by manufacturer and part number on your drawings. The Hall Company typically installs Berg, and AMP connectors. |
| If your application requires a tinted window display or colored LED or LCD windows, The Hall Company will custom mix a transparent color to enhance the appearance of your display. |
| The Hall Company offers shielding
that will protect against EMI, ESD & RFI. This protection can be handled
by aluminized polyester which will protect against all three types of interference,
conductive silver for EMI or ESD and carbon; which will protect against
ESD. We also offer protection in transparent windows with the use of Indium
Tin Oxide or ITO. Any one of these protections can be terminated via the
circuit tail or a separate tail. If a metal support panel is included, these
conductive layers may be electromechanically connected. (For more information
regarding shielding, see "Shielding" under the "Knowledge Base" page
of this site.) |
| If your panel nomenclature
needs to be changeable, we suggest insertable legends. Small pockets can
be incorporated over the key areas that will allow a legend strip to be
positioned under the overlay to give the ability to quickly change nomenclatures.
|
| Various types of materials
& finishes are available (dependent upon your application environment).
Please refer to the Graphic Materials
section of the Knowledge Base for chemical and environmental suggestions.

| The Hall Company, having a history of being at the forefront of flexible film technology, has added a new "Surface Mount" line. This new line allows the electrical bonding of virtually any surface mount device to a printed silver circuit. This technology offers the flexibility of LEDs, Resistors and Diodes as well as many other components to be used as a stand-alone circuit or included within the membrane switch.
